About the Artist
Revealing
the life hidden
within.
A lifelong journey from the structural elegance of stone to the rhythmic abstraction of luminous color.
Trained across some of New York's most respected studios and academies, Binnie has spent over four decades moving between stone and canvas, carrying the same instinct into both.
Her artistic journey began at the age of five at sleepaway camp, where she spent most of the summer in the arts and crafts shack. At summer's end, she proudly sent home a clay ashtray she had lovingly shaped for her father. It arrived shattered. Thus began a lifelong love-hate relationship with clay.
As a child, visiting the Brooklyn public library was always a joy. After climbing a long flight of steep stone steps, she entered a large, window-filled room painted a dull gray, yet somehow always glowing with light. Each week she wandered the shelves in search of the perfect book — until one day, she discovered a small volume filled with photographs of Auguste Rodin's The Kiss. She was captivated. Week after week, she checked out the same book, mesmerized by the flowing forms and timeless beauty of the sculpture.
